As I decided to stay at University and not go on placement I will be apart of this years Design Enterprise and Innovation Professional Live Project. This project is based around events management giving us the opportunity to showcase our work in front of some of the Fashion Industries leading professionals. On our first day back we were briefed on the different roles within the live brief in which we had to pick two aligned to our key interests and skills. There were 3 different areas; catwalk shows, exhibition and static display and marketing / PR. Within these groups there are a selection of different roles in which we selected our two chosen roles. We will be responsible for the three fashion events showcasing the final year BA (HONS) Fashion students work including; The AUB Fashion Show, Graduate Fashion Week and AUB BA Summer Show.
Within the live project I will be taking on the role of styling for NIL Magazine and Graduate Fashion Week which will include; hair and makeup, assisting within the NIL photoshoots and communicating with the third year students to see what style looks they are wanting to achieve. Styling is a crucial element across both the magazine and the show, it completes the overall look the student is wanting to achieve which also needs to be memorable as part of the GFW show we have to stand out. Within styling I will also be involved in the model casting to see who is best suited for the NIL magazine to model the designer’s outfits.
As my other role I have chosen to be a part of the social media, this will include posting content on Instagram of the progress of the third year designers and communicators work leading up to GFW. This role is very important because it is a huge social media platform to promote the university and students to industry and others who will be wanting to watch particular catwalk shows. The content posted onto the Instagram needs to be done in a very professional and visually exciting way to interest others and potential industries to come and visit the AUB stand at GFW.
I chose to be a part of the styling and social media because it is something I have a genuine interest in and would like to pursue as a career outside of University once I have graduated. This live project will give me the chance to have a hands-on experience as to what it would be like in industry working with clients. Our client for this project is our course leader Iain Archer who is the head of Fashion at Arts University Bournemouth.
