On Monday we used the library as a source of inspiration for NIL Magazine. I was looking for styling inspiration and layouts, within other magazines and publications. One thing that caught my attention was colourful backdrops as part of the styling in photoshoots, using a colourful backdrop could substitute the amount of colour pages needed to put into NIL Magazine as long as the colour scheme is kept the same throughout. Another styling factor that caught my eye was the elaborate use of colour within the models make up, bold lips and exaggerated brightly coloured eyeliner is very popular. It makes an outfit stand out and come alive which is something I will definitely consider when it comes to styling the NIL Photoshoots.
Prior to this activity myself and the other girls in charge of the styling spoke to the third year designers to ask them what hair and make up looks they would like for NIL, the Bournemouth Show and Graduate Fashion week. They common keywords they used for makeup were edgy, minimal and natural. After talking to them they all seemed to like the idea of white makeup i.e. eyeliner, lips and markings on the models faces. However after doing some research of current trends and colours colourful bold but minimal makeup is very popular in magazines at the moment. This is something I and styling as a group need to further look into to see what look we should achieve and what colours we will go forward with and use for NIL and both shows. However the hairstyle ideas were agreed from both us and third year designers, either a low sleek pony or messy swept back hair, smooth at the back for the female models. For the male models something very neat and classy depending on the style of the models hair. This is something that myself and the others will look further into when we know what models are being selected for NIL and for the Bournemouth Show.
